Saori Ogura

PhD Candidate, University of British Columbia
MLA, UC Berkeley. MS, Lesley University. BA, Gakushuin University

I am a PhD student at Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the Faculty of Medicine, and a UBC Public Scholar. I was the recipient of the 2017 Nikon Salon Miki Jun Inspiration Award for my photographs documenting my time living in India’s Eastern Himalaya. I was also a consultant at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, where I worked on a project in East Africa, aimed to bridge between pastoralists who hold Indigenous knowledge and meteorologists who hold scientific knowledge for a better National Adaptation Policy for climate change. I hold a Bachelor of Political Studies from Gakushuin University in Japan, and a Master of Science in Ecological Leadership and Education from Lesley University in the US, as well as a Master in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at UC Berkeley. My doctoral research explores meaning of traditional practices and associated knowledge, and their relations to human wellbeing and planetary health.
